Billabong Jack McCoy Surf Film Festival 2005
The Billabong Jack McCoy Surf Film Festival has just completed its 4th annual world tour and confirmed that big screen surf films are back and here to stay. For the past 8 months Taj Burrow's new film Fair Bits has toured the world. Thirteen countries, 91 locations and 145 shows, over 40,000 people viewed the jammed-packed surf programme on the big screen. The Festival also saw ad-on programmes such as Solid in Europe – the two days that Teahupoo blew minds, the Jack McCoy surf cult classic Bunyip Dreaming in the USA, and the Panasonic Surfshorts Film Competition in Australia and New Zealand. The Festival kicked off under the stars in Narrabeen, Australia in January. The night was electric with the open-air arena packed with over 3,000 people who experienced the melodic tunes of Donavan Flrankenreiter as the sun set and the world premiere of Fair Bits on a giant 50-foot screen. Eight months and 13 countries later, the final screening of the 2005 Festival was just as successful with back to back sell out shows in a classic old cinema in Ericeira, Portugal. Global surfwear company Billabong is 'stoked with the positive response and is thrilled to be showing surf films on the big screen again as it's a huge part of our surfing culture'. Next year in 2006 the Billabong Jack McCoy Surf Film Festival is set to screen from Sydney to Santa Cruz, San Juan to Seignosse in more countries and with more people than ever before and will be touring with Jack's new film 'Free As A Dog – a true dogs tale' starring Joel Parkinson.
See you on the road! |
